Sump pump repair addresses a pump that's not working the way it should – whether it's not turning on when water rises, running constantly without shutting off, making unusual noises, or simply not moving water effectively anymore. A sump pump is one of those systems nobody thinks about until it fails during a storm, and by then a repair is urgent rather than routine.
Signs your sump pump needs repair include the pump not activating when water rises in the pit, a pump that runs but doesn't seem to be moving water out, loud grinding or rattling noises during operation, the pump cycling on and off rapidly, or visible water in the basement despite having a sump pump installed. A pump that's silent when it should be running is often the most urgent sign, since that means zero protection against the next heavy rain.
We start by checking the basics – power supply, the float switch that triggers the pump, and whether the impeller is jammed or damaged, since these are the most common failure points. If the float switch has failed or is stuck, that's usually a straightforward fix or replacement. If the motor itself is burning out or the impeller is damaged from debris, we'll assess whether repair makes sense or whether the pump is old enough that replacement is the more reliable long-term fix. We test the full system with water to confirm proper operation before we consider the repair complete, not just a quick visual check.
Cost depends on what's actually failed – a float switch or check valve issue is a quick, affordable repair, while a burned-out motor on an older pump often makes more sense to address with a new pump rather than a rebuild. We'll always give you a straight recommendation based on the pump's age and condition in your Sandy, OR home.
